THE 2010 SOCCER FIFA WORLD CUP IS GONE!

Hosting the 2010 Soccer FIFA World cup has been the breaking news to South African citizens; every citizen was crazy about the 2010 FIFA World Cup hoping that it will change their lives.
The government promised that during the tournament and after the tournament there will be a lot of change in South African economy. People were promised to get jobs during the tournament, some few people got jobs but those were short term jobs. The government employed people to prepare for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but those employees were just Special Casuals for that tournament and they had contracts. After the entire tournament was finished everybody who was busy working to make the 2010 FIFA World Cup a successful one was dismissed because the contracts were over.
Most people took this tournament as if after it had gone people will be left millionaires, many people budgeted for this event, while other citizens wasted lot of money. There were people who prepared to make money on this tournament by selling vital products that are suitable for this event, but not all of them were successful on their plans because there were certain things that should be required in order for someone to sell. Only those people who met those requirements were allowed to sell in the Stadiums, most of those people that were allowed were people coming from other African countries and other developed countries.
Most South African citizens put their Fruit Stands only in the Public Viewing Areas (PVA’s) where they did not need to meet any requirement, but even there they sold less because there were Tuck shops that were prepared for each PVA. Only those big companies benefited on 2010 FIFA World Cup, but not those who were already in poverty. It is said that most people who were working on this tournament were volunteers, they never get paid and others were promised to be paid.
Most people thought that 2010 FIFA World Cup will bring money to South Africa and it will change many people’s lives. There are those people who are situated in rural areas who never even knew what is happening in the World because they do not have any facilities to access the media due to the lack of service delivery from the government. There are places that do not even have electricity even after the 2010 FIFA World Cup. People that were staying in Informal settlements with no jobs, no basic needs and other resources are still in Poverty, there is no change at all.
